Alvarado Street Bakery supports the movement toward farming practices that sustain soil fertility naturally and eliminate the use of toxic farm chemicals. We strive to use as many organically grown ingredients as possible. It is our belief that by supporting organic farming we are enhancing our health and protecting the environment.

What does organic really mean?

Organic refers not to the food itself, but to how it is produced. Organic food production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes the fertility of the soil. Organic foods are produced without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. Organic foods are minimally processed to maintain the integrity of the food without artificial ingredients, preservatives or irradiation. Independent third party certifying regularly inspect farm fields and processing facilities, keep detailed records and do periodic testing of soil and water.

Is organic food better for you?

There is no conclusive evidence at this time to suggest that organically produced foods are more nutritious; however, well balanced soils grow strong, healthy plants which many believe taste better and contain more nutrients. Chefs across the country have begun using organic produce because they believe that there is a noticeable taste difference. Our customers agree!
