Did you know that Alvarado Street Bakery is an organic bakery and a worker-owned cooperative? That means that the people who work at the bakery also own and manage it. There are 82 of us as of 2018. We are not owned by any corporation and never will be.
Our co-op (short for cooperative) is not only Certified Organic, we also make sure to only use Non-GMO Ingredients (non-genetically modified ingredients) when baking our breads. Genetically modified foods have many health and environmental concerns and our co-op wants no part of it. This makes us a genuine organic bakery.
Our breads have and will always be purely organic and non-gmo.
The image below is a "parent company" chart of popular organic brands, and who owns them. While it is great to see more organic products in the market, it is interesting to see who owns what company. Some corporations offer conflicting messages: they own pro-organic companies, but spend millions to fight the GMO labeling movement. We find this questionable.
At Alvarado Street Bakery, we stand firm in our conviction that bread is always best when it is natural, organic, and made of non-gmo ingredients.
