Apple Brown Betty

Recipe by Julie Shock, Alvarado Street Bakery

Serves many

INGREDIENTS

3-4 apples, peeled, cored, diced into bite sizes (soak in lemon water to prevent browning while preparing the recipe)
10 slices of Sprouted Whole Wheat Bread, cut into cubes
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup of water
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt

OPTIONAL ADD INS

A handful of granola
Some crushed graham crackers
Dried cherries
A scoop of applesauce
A handful of walnuts

DIRECTIONS

Drain off the lemon water and add the diced apples into the slow cooker. In a big bowl, toss together the bread cubes, spices, and brown sugar. Dump it all into the slow cooker on top of the apples.
Drizzle with the butter and water. If you are adding in any additional items, mix them in now (leave the apples at the bottom of the slow cooker). Cover the slow cooker, and cook on low for about 3 hours. After about 3 hours, give it all a good stir, and let it go for another 30 minutes or so. The apples will be tender when it is ready. Serve with a big scoop of ice cream!
