Frico-Style Grilled Cheese Sandwich

This crispy and rich take on the classic grilled cheese sandwich is a unique delight! Frico, the Italian technique of melting cheese until it becomes a chip-like texture is well paired on the outside of the bread in this application. Enjoy with a bowl of tomato soup for dipping action!

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

2 slices Sprouted Multigrain Bread

2 Tbsp. butter

1 cup cheddar cheese, grated & divided

To assemble:

Lay out bread and sprinkle ½ cup of grated cheddar on 1 of the slices and close to make a sandwich.

Melt 1 Tbsp. of butter on medium heat in a nonstick pan. When fully melted, add the sandwich and allow the bread to absorb melted butter on one side.

Toast bread until golden, repeat on other side, approx.. 5 minutes.

This is where the frico technique comes in…

Evenly sprinkle ¼ of the remaining grated cheddar on the top of bread, then with a quick twist of the wrist flip over onto the pan. Let cheese melt face down until crispy and brown. 2-3 minutes.

Repeat process on the other side of the sandwich. Serve hot and gooey!
